Senior Embedded Software Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will develop and build systems to enhance and improve existing product lines and help develop new products. He or she will create customized systems for customers from specification analysis, design, testing, product installation, and continued support.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop electrical design solutions based on engineering principles
  • Maintain project scope, identify and address project creep
  • Interpret client requirements, identify and address design parameters, and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical analysis to support the design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls
  • Architect firmware and software programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile
  • Conduct new product costs and time estimates, as well as thorough new product testing
  • Develop and execute product qualification test plans and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) when requested by the customer
  • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings
  • Commission customized products and systems onsite at customer facilities
  • Create accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials)
  • Provide technical/engineering support with replacement parts in existing systems
  • Define equipment and parts requirements from external suppliers
  • Modify systems and document the amendments according to customer’s requests
  • Provide high quality pre-sales, design-in and post-sales technical support to customers
  • Provide technical support and on-site troubleshooting and repair for customers
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other related degree
  • 10 years+ experience designing and implementing software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to deployment
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ embedded software and electrical engineering experience
  • Work history of design, development, coding, testing, and debugging system software
  • Programming experience in C/C++
  • Experience with software/firmware developed for safety-critical systems and highly developed understanding of safety redundancy
  • Ability to code and document (wherever possible electronically and in-line) in a structured way
  • Product development experience with significant focus on embedded real-time systems
  • Working knowledge of reading schematics and basic electronics, this includes embedded CPU/GPU (ARM, NXP, or STM), memory, power supplies, and communication busses (I2C, SPI, CAN,USB, JTAG). This includes memory management and optimization.
  • Experience with bare metal system
  • Experience with Kernel, board support package, and ability to develop device driver is a plus
  • Versed in IoT communications
  • Ability and willingness to responding to phone calls and texts after hours and on weekends in a timely manner
  • Experience in developing prototypes and delivering commercial products (need experience with delivering real products and not only R&D)
  • Willingness and desire to be accountable, autonomous, and take full ownership of projects
  • Ability to accurately estimate development timelines and required resources
  • Should be a self-starter
  • Business/financial acumen
